This year, Schutzgemeinschaft Westfälischer Pumpernickel e.V. (the association for the protection of Westphalian pumpernickel) is making its debut at ‘International Green Week’ in Berlin. On the first two days of the trade fair, 16 and 17 January 2015, representatives of the association will be on hand to provide visitors with information on Westphalian pumpernickel. The stand (143, hall 5.2a), which is shared with Ernährung NRW e.V., will also feature samples of Westphalian pumpernickel.
Visitors will also be given the opportunity to discover other regional specialities from North Rhine-Westphalia – and try them out in combination with Westphalian pumpernickel.
The 80th International Green Week is regarded as the world’s most important food, agriculture and horticulture exhibition. Following the trend amongst consumers, regional produce with certified origins is playing an ever more prominent role at Green Week. With the Europe-wide safeguards attached to its origin, composition and production process, Westphalian pumpernickel is a further reflection of this trend. ‘We are proud that the EU has recognised the unique nature of Westphalian pumpernickel,’ explains Thomas Gill, Chief Executive of Schutzgemeinschaft Westfälischer Pumpernickel e.V., ‘and are delighted to be able to showcase our products at Green Week.’
